What is changing
When the merged airline launches on December 17, Asiana's 'OZ' flight numbers become Korean Air 'KE' numbers, and bookings and tickets move to Korean Air's system. Korean Air calls this a flight number change (REAC) and said it runs step by step from November 2 to December 3.
It covers existing Asiana bookings and tickets for flights departing on or after December 17. Customers whose flight numbers change will be notified individually by KakaoTalk message, text message, email and similar channels.
What pauses during the transfer
New bookings and changes to existing bookings pause for 23 hours, from 6 p.m. the day before a flight's data is moved until 5 p.m. on the transfer day. This applies if any flight in your itinerary is being transferred. Not all Asiana bookings stop at once.
Special meal requests and changes, and requests for passengers needing assistance, are blocked for up to 47 hours, from 6 p.m. two days before the transfer until 5 p.m. on the day. This includes services for infants and children, unaccompanied minors, pregnant passengers, passengers with reduced mobility and travelers with pets. Advance seat reservations and seat changes are also paused during the transfer.
When flights are moved
Domestic flights move in three rounds on November 2, 9 and 16; international flights in 17 rounds from November 4 to December 3. Korean Air–Asiana codeshare flights move separately from December 7 to 9.
The first round, on November 2, covers all domestic routes departing from March 28 to October 27, 2027. Itineraries with these flights cannot be booked or changed from 6 p.m. November 1 to 5 p.m. November 2, and add-on requests close a day earlier, from 6 p.m. October 31. Check Asiana's notice for the date of each international route.
How to prepare
If you need to change dates, choose seats or order a special meal, check your route's transfer date and finish before it. The block is longer for trips that need assistance services, such as travel with children, pregnancy or pets.
When you get a flight number change notice, check the new flight number, departure time and booking details again. Korean Air said it will post integration FAQs on its website and mobile app.
